I’m a little confused, that’s pretty typical usage of the word. Or is it because it comes across a a little pretentious? As though they’re just trying to cooperate with you to more easily violate your privacy.

I can’t speak for OP, but personally it makes my bullshit detector kick into high gear any time a corporate channel talks in a casual, friendly tone like that. It comes across as very insincere and infantalizing to me.

I hate to break it to you but almost every major corporation has a person whose entire job is to translate corporate copy into easy-to-parse, casual, friendly “conversation,” because they do want you to think of the brand as your trusted friend. They’re trying to manipulate us at every level, every interaction.
