      They’re just a regular conservative party, the pivot to being bloodthirsty racist fuckbags is somewhat recent. Angela Merkel was in this party as well and she was pretty open to immigration and specifically hates the current party chief.

        Merkel herself was a bit of an outlier for the CDU though. Most of the party is and has been more conservative/further right than her.

          While there’s some truth to that, Merz is definitely part of the party’s right wing. There are quite a few regional CDU politicians who happily govern in coalitions with the Greens.
