She says she’s open to it but doesn’t find it as intuitive. So there’s a chance.

To be fair, neither Reddit was intuitive when I first started using it.

Reddit having a glut of third party apps for viewing and navigating at your preference really helped with outreach.

      Now those options are gone.

Maybe it was because I came from a world of Fark/Slashdot/Newgrounds; but “website that is a list of things users submitted to it that may or may not interest me” was a pretty familiar format to me. Old Reddit was still my go-to until June 12th.

“Feed me full content as I scroll” is too annoying. It makes me watch and see things I have no interest in. It’s junk, it’s clutter. Sell me with a headline and a thumbnail sure, but let me decide from there, thanks.

She’s not wrong. Gonna be a long while before this place is accessible to “normies”. UX issues aside, it’s buggy and unstable. Late adopters have no tolerance for this stuff.

My wife is also a scab sticking to reddit. Unfortunately, a good reason for doing so is that a lot of the niche woman-oriented subs she’s on don’t exist in the fediverse yet.

That’s the problem, even if technically the platform is the worst option, it is a pain to try and relocate a community.

I had to do it with like 70 people from Google Hangouts to another service a few years back and it was crazy how hard just getting everyone into a basic service is. Any new or weird quirk will absolutely chase people back - especially if the original service is still working

I tried to find equivalents here but nothing yet, or massive amounts of NSFW type subs.

So I’m trying this out, but keeping my gender specific account on there in the meantime. But fuck the reddit app, it’s browser or nothing.

Mine is waiting till a few apps start to hit the App Store before she tries it. I think once a handful of the more polished apps start to make it out of their test flights, we’ll start to see another decent sized migration over here.

Fortunately I don’t think you’ll have to wait too long. I’ve been using Memmy in Test Flight since really early builds and it’s extremely impressive how mature and feature rich this app has gotten. The last update (which are usually daily) made themes customizable to the point where I basically have the app looking like how I had Apollo customized. It’s close to being fully reviewed and approved for the App Store.

The Boost dev is working on a Boost app for Lemmy atm. I can’t wait to finally get the notification that it’s available for download.

Tell her to try Memmy for Lemmy. It’s very good. Based on Apollo which I used for years.

We’re on Android, so I’m currently on Jerboa and trying to get her to try it. But she always uses the mobile web site and opens 10,000 tabs to browse one at a time.

Basically she wants a client with a reading list feature, I think.

Could always try wefwef - I’ve been using the web app and it’s lovely! You just go to wefwef.app to access it, and there’s a place in settings where it walks you through how to set up a Home Screen icon so it works like a regular app. It’s very similar to Apollo as well :)

Hope you & your partner have fun with Lemmy! I am so far, trying to convince my other half to join up as well, haha 😛

Good to know! Looks like the Android half might require a bit more DIY investment (not on the play store yet) so I’ll have to look into that.

Yeah, it’s on TestFlight on iOS (effectively testing only). But it’s stable for me and the developer is fixing reported issues pretty quickly
