For me the problem is the use of the phrase “to help you…” because I think that means something different, something more, than what you’re saying it means. That’s not a phrasing that evokes, to me, the deterministic nature of the way a web browser operates (or used to operate). Traditionally, I give a web browser a command and it executes it, such as “go to this web address” or “print this page” or “save this as a bookmark”. Helping me, on the other hand, would involve some processing of data to attempt to understand my desires. I don’t want Mozilla or Firefox to be doing that at all.

Maybe it’s just “readable” language that is read much more narrowly legally to mean just what you’re saying. But maybe it opens the door for Mozilla to use it to help me experience online content by learning my habits and demographics in order to lead me to places I indicated I would be interested in by my use of the browser.

Not voting is a choice. Not voting is saying you’re okay with either option. You’re OK with fascism because you can’t bear to have neoliberalism instead. Maybe you’d rather have genocide of both Arabs and Latin Americans? Maybe you’d rather have a president who has promised to make the genocide worse than one who might put some amount of pressure to make it less bad.

I imagine we can agree no American president has been ideal? Some of the presidents who have given us the most progress in important areas like welfare, civil rights, and environmental protections have also been war criminals. Roosevelt, Kennedy/LBJ, Obama, etc. Imagine where we’d be if no one voted for the lesser evil in those elections, held firm and didn’t vote for the president who would set up concentration camps, or keep us in wars in Asia and the middle east.

Throwing away your vote got us presidents like GWB and Trump. Stalled progress for decades. Evil supreme court justices. In fact, the most underrated job of the president is picking supreme court justices, since the court has made itself the single most powerful institution in the country.

How about you vote for the most potential for progress?

The not voting strategy has never worked before, why would it work this time? You want the let the future of this country determined by someone else?

What are we going to change our vote to? Only two parties can win this year (let’s change that) and the other option is worse on this issue.

Sounds like copium to me. The neolibs have really figured out how to placate the masses. Things aren’t bad enough and the media keeps the majority unaware.

I get why ISP provided routers and some brands of mesh router would collect and sell data but what is it about “mesh” that is particularly bad here? I have a cheap TP Link router that is apparently mesh compatible but it seems like a traditional router in all the other way. Should I be concerned?

Where are you gonna shop that’s better? Kroger? Safeway? Walmart? Whole foods? It’s fucked up.

My grocery store’s frozen crap has never been as good, interesting, or inexpensive as it is at Trader Joe’s. It’s not that the stuff there is great or cheap, but there’s a bit of variety that is harder to find in the Krogers and Safeways and they do switch things up so every few months there are new options. For me, between variety and C quality, vs the same basic American stuff and somewhere between F to B quality, I’ll take the former. That’s why I don’t really get frozen stuff at Costco.

The HMO format of insurance is not uncommon, but Kaiser does have a somewhat unique implementation of it. Most HMO insurances contract with healthcare providers (network) and you are only allowed to go to them. Kaiser is not the healthcare provider but it is a consortium with the medical groups, hospitals, and insurance, such that they appear as one big entity. This can create conflicts of interest, but it also creates some huge efficiencies. Everyone from GPs to specialists to pharmacy is all in the same system, so there are not issues with communication between different companies and hospitals. The also have more incentive than most insurance companies to keep you healthy to prevent you from using the more expensive types of care. In my experience, for the same premiums, KP tends to have the lowest out of pocket max and no/low deductibles compared to PPOs like Cigna or Blue Cross/Shield.

This idea that to be stable or put down roots means buying a single family home in the suburbs is one of the biggest problems in America. Because of this idea, there’s so little high quality medium density housing designed for families in cities, which only reinforces this idea. It causes people spread out, they isolate, they use more energy to live and commute, they don’t have experiences with a diverse group of people.

Around these parts you can’t just put information without stating your bias. Your bias WILL be assumed and you WILL be canceled.
