Weird. Other than how it used to choke when there were conflicts (and all uploads stopped until that was fixed) I haven’t had any issues like that. Guess I’m just lucky.

I’ve had pretty good experience with Nextcloud’s instant upload. The only time I’ve had it shit the bed was ages ago when it would occasionally get stuck on a conflict, but that hasn’t happened in a long time. Pretty much all of my image folders (camera/DCIM, Screenshots, Downloads) get synced. The only annoying thing was when apps would suddenly change where they download to and I’d have to reconfigure yet another sync folder, but I can’t really fault NC for that.

Mine is set to upload and keep a local copy and only do a one way sync (phone to NC). Not sure if that causes less issues than a 2 way sync or deleting the local copy after upload?

Sadly, that’s an eBay photo I searched for the comment. I had that exact setup, but it got sold at a yard sale over 2 decades ago :(

I hate those things - they treat you like a thief by default. I rarely use them and prefer to wait in line for the 1-2 cashiers, but I did the other day because I only had a few bottles of water to check out, and it was unsurprisingly horrible.

Scanned and bagged all my stuff. More slowly than I’d have liked, but otherwise uneventfully. I unpocket my wallet to get my shopper’s card and debit card out. “Oh no, you didn’t!” the machine said as it called for backup. Cue waiting 3-4 minutes for the attendant to get to me.

The machine asked the attendant if I was stealing and showed a replay of what it assumed must be me trying some Ocean’s 11 level of grand larceny. In the video? It was me getting my wallet out to pay.

Absolutely no time was saved. Nothing was more convenient, and to top it off, I was once again accused of stealing by a bathroom scale with delusions of grandeur.

AFAIK, yes. Though I haven’t tried it with WPA3.

While WEP is dead, you can still use it to capture the WPA/2 handshake and run it through something like John the Ripper to try to recover the passphrase.

Admittedly, I haven’t messed with it in years.

Either way, you still need a wireless adapter that’s capable of promiscuous mode as well as a driver for it that supports packet injection (not sure how rare that is nowadays).

When I was in college, I rented a house just outside my budget and found I couldn’t afford things like cable internet.

I had a wifi->ethernet bridge that was originally to connect my OG Xbox to a wifi network. I also had neighbors with Wifi using WEP encryption. An idea was born.

Was able to use aircrack-ng on my laptop to crack their WEP key in about 15 minutes. Plugged that key into my wifi->ethernet bridge, and then hooked that into my router. Bam, my whole house was online.

That worked for probably a year and a half.

Nothing other than increasing the difficulty for a novice driver. Mostly it’s me going on a tangent and reminiscing about defeating that fucking log lol.

AFAIK, it’s mostly due to how the driving exams are structured.

First you have to pass the written exam. If you fail that, you don’t continue.

After the written exam is the parallel parking test. That’s done on-site. If you don’t pass that part, you don’t continue to the road test.

The road test is last; it’s up to the instructor where you go for that, but it usually is a route that covers various scenarios that were on the exam (4-way stops, crosswalks, speed transition zones, school zones, etc).

I’d guess it’s setup that way because of how many people fail the parallel parking test; best to do that in a controlled environment where there’s no risk to regular people’s cars out in the wild.

Edit: This probably varies state-by-state, too. I’m just describing how it was here.

My parents insisted I learn on a manual, and while I didn’t appreciate it at the time, I do now.

The regional DMV office where I took my driving exam had the most notorious parallel parking setup in the state. It was two traffic cones next to a very large, 3 1/2 foot diameter log (representing the curb) and was on the side of a circular cul-de-sac. So not only did you have to account for the curvature, if you got too close to the “curb”, you were gonna have a very bad day lol.

If you’re wondering: I nailed it (they let you practice after hours which helped).

Can confirm, but depending on the VPS, your traffic may only be metered in one direction. Mine only meters egress, not ingress, so it’s not too bad if I want to use my media server.

All of mine use bind mounts so I can just tar-gz the whole deploy folder for backups and migrations. For volumes that connect to remote shares (SMB, NFS, etc) I use named volumes and let Docker take care of their lifecycle.

If named docker volumes would let me specify the local filesystem location, I’d use them. As-is, I rarely do.

My Kobo has (er, had) Pocket support, so it was nice, in theory, to save something to Pocket in FF and have it sync to my e-reader. That said, it was kind of glitchy and a lot of sites didn’t seem to work well with it (typically documentation pages for things like Oracle, etc that I’d want to save for offline reference).

Also works for changing the thermostat.

The joke is different variations of that and seeing them a dozen, a hundred times. I think it’s just about played itself out, but you may still see a few coming through.

Then you really should list all of the secondary functions you plan to add to it, make sure they understand what those are, and agree to each of them: full disclosure.

If you do something on it that could get them in trouble, it’s their ass on the line, not yours.
